Attorney Biography
Mrs. Aitken founded Aitken Law, LLC in 2011 and practices exclusively in civil state appellate law. She handles all types of civil appeals including Dependency and Neglect, Family law, Civil litigation, Probate, Employment, and Property Tax cases in the appellate and state courts, sometimes working closely with trial counsel. She also serves as a consultant for trial counsel on appellate law. She prosecutes and defends appeals from post-trial motions in the District Court to briefing and oral argument in the Colorado Court of Appeals and Supreme Court to remand hearings in the District Court after an appeal. She also handles small claims and county court appeals as well as petitions for review of magistrate’s orders in the District Court. Mrs. Aitken has several published opinions and is a member of the CBA Appellate Practice Subcommittee, CBA Appellate Pro Bono Task Force Committee, CBA Appeals Clinic Committee, CBA Appellate Pro Bono Screening Committee, CBA Family Law Section, ABBA, CBA Solo-Small Firm Litigation Section (Judicial Nominees Committee) and the Rhode Brackett Inn of Court. She also volunteers her time with ABBA for the legal aid clinic at Adams County courthouse. Ms. Aitken was appointed as a commissioner to the Judicial Performance Commission for the 17th Judicial District in November 2019. She is admitted to the Colorado bar, the U.S. District Court of Colorado, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals and U.S. Supreme Court. She graduated from Sturm College of Law, University of Denver in 2003 and California State University, San Bernardino, B.A., in 1997.
