Attorney Biography
With a Master's degree in Environmental Science from Yale University and Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Oregon, Maya Kane brings a unique, multidisciplinary perspective to the practice of law. Maya has developed a specialty practice focused on voting rights and Freedom of Information Act Litigation. She assists nonprofit clients nationwide with tracking, appealing, and litigating requests under the Freedom of Information Act and state records act laws. Maya has an additional niche practice in voting rights litigation where she has dedicated the majority of her legal career to protecting the fundamental right to vote and every American's right to participate in democratic processes. Maya litigates federal voting rights cases under the Voting Rights Act and the U.S. Constitution. She has represented disenfranchised communities, including Native American tribes, tribal organizations, and individual plaintiffs in several successful federal court cases. Her work has resulted in numerous successful court decisions, including a decision in the Tenth Circuit upholding a District Court decision finding intentional racial discrimination in drawing election districts and upholding remedial election districts drawn by a Special Master.
