Attorney Biography
Jessica H. Sanderson, the Founding Member of the Sanderson Law Firm LLC, specializes in providing litigation, investigation, and legal and compliance advisory services to clients focusing primarily on areas such as anti-bribery/anti-corruption law (including the FCPA and UKBA), international trade compliance (including economic sanctions and export control regulations), antitrust, securities fraud, and white-collar crimes. With a background in both Big Law and as an in-house attorney for a publicly traded company, Jessica possesses a unique blend of legal expertise and business acumen.
With nearly 30 years of experience in private practice, as a litigator, and as a leader on ethics and compliance monitorships, Jessica has conducted numerous fraud and corruption investigations. She also has in-depth knowledge and experience dealing with a wide variety of international trade and compliance issues.
Throughout her career, Jessica has collaborated with numerous clients in evaluating, designing, and implementing effective ethics and compliance programs following industry best practices and regulator guidance. Among other things, she regularly crafts third-party due diligence policies and procedures and conducts third party due diligence, and she has conducted third-party compliance audits in several high-risk countries. Jessica also enjoys creating and delivering bespoke compliance training, utilizing special techniques she developed to enhance audience engagement.
Before establishing The Sanderson Law Firm, Jessica was a Partner at The Volkov Law Group, providing legal and compliance advice and services to clients across various industries and sizes, including public, private, and non-profit entities. Highlights of her time at Volkov Law include: representing a key witness during the 2019 Congressional Impeachment hearings; arguing and winning a Ninth Circuit appeal and obtaining an award of sanctions against the appellant and its counsel; obtaining a Writ of Mandamus from the Fifth Circuit; winning an award of attorneys’ fees in the Southern District of California including an upward fee adjustment in a False Claims Act case; obtaining a specific license from OFAC to permit a non-profit organization to conduct nuclear non-proliferation activities in North Korea; and successfully defending a motion to dismiss before the Chief Judge of the Rhode Island District Court, which she argued in front of hundreds of students and faculty members at the Roger Williams University School of Law, the state’s only law school.
Prior to joining Volkov Law in 2019, Jessica spent five years as in-house counsel at Innospec Inc. (NASDQ: IOSP), a publicly traded, global specialty chemicals company subject to a U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 (FCPA) and UK Bribery Act of 2010 (UKBA) monitorship. Before that, Ms. Sanderson served as a litigator at Gibson Dunn, representing clients in complex white collar and securities fraud investigations and litigation, and participated in FCPA compliance monitorships, including the Siemens AG compliance monitorship. Ms. Sanderson commenced her legal career at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York City in 1994, and has consistently built on that strong legal foundation.
